EXCEL ME LEADS THE WAY WITH NEW SAFEGUARDING SUPPORT OFFICER STANDARD

Excel Me Apprenticeships is leading the way by becoming one of the first end-point assessment organisations to be approved by Ofqual to deliver the new Level 3 Safeguarding Support Officer apprenticeship standard.

A Safeguarding Support Officer role is present across a wide range of public, private, and voluntary sector organisations, helping to ensure statutory safeguarding responsibilities are met. Prevalent sectors include Professional Sports, Leisure, Education and Training, Health and Social Care, the Emergency Services, Housing and Charities; and these officers play a key role in demonstrating how organisations work to protect individuals’ health, wellbeing, and human rights.

Safeguarding Support Officers specialise in preventative safeguarding strategies and work closely with various organisations to make informed decisions regarding the protection of children and adults. Their responsibilities include responding to and triaging initial safeguarding concerns, investigating cases, and gathering intelligence to refer to the most appropriate person or organisation.

Additionally, Safeguarding Support Officers are trained in recognising and responding to emerging safeguarding needs, advocating for and initiating early intervention as soon as issues arise, all in accordance with safeguarding best practice principles.

Zac Cheek, Head of Apprenticeships at Excel Me, who is overseeing the launch of this new standard, said: “The role of a Safeguarding Support Officer is an important one, and through this tailored on-programme learning programme, apprentices will acquire the essential technical knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for the role. Additionally, they will receive valuable on-the-job training with designated safeguarding leads to fully prepare them for the EPA.”

“We are excited to be leading the way with this initiative, becoming one of the first organisations in England to offer end-point assessments for this new standard. We are confident it will provide significant benefits to a diverse range of organisations across multiple sectors,” Zac added.
